THIS IS OUR FIGHT TOO!
HCVI is dedicated to helping the people of Ukraine overcome illness and trauma in the setting of the most unimaginable and challenging of circumstances. Many have been forced to flee the country while others experience internal displacement. Those unable to flee their homes live under the threat of constant violence and suffer from both food and financial insecurity. Lack of access to healthcare services and medications is widespread.
HCVI is working to alleviate the burden of disease and injury in two ways. Our founder, Francis Duggan MD, is presently in Ukraine working alongside his Ukraine healthcare colleagues. HCVI has shipped a very large quantity of essential medication, equipment, and supplies. He will be involved in both pre-hospital as well as hospital-based care in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Kharkiv Regional Health System, Western Ukraine Specialized Children's Medical Center, Slovyansk Hospital, Kramatorsk #3 Hospital, and a growing number of partner hospitals in Ukraine. In addition, HCVI is providing medical support and lifesaving medications, equipment, supplies, and training to 2 Battalions. Dr. Duggan is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Stop the Bleed instructor for the American College of Surgeons. In addition to direct patient care, he will also be engaged in training others (tccc.hcvi.org), with the goal of empowering his fellow healthcare providers to better meet the many challenges of war-related trauma.
On May 10 HCVI went live with its first of many hospital deployments in the Ukraine of HCVI's Digital Health Platform (telemedicine, telesurgery, teleradiology, and EHR). The speed and scope of this project owe a great deal to our recent partnership with SmartAid.
